Gaius Catullus

Roman

Poet. His penetrating and witty poems described the Bohemian, sometimes even licentious, behavior of upper class life in the early Roman Empire. One of his most famous poems begins with Odi et amo (I hate and I love) which describes his ambivalent love for a woman.
