John Muir
1838 – 1914
Scottish-American

Naturalist. A true lover of nature, he became an expert on botany and related subjects, and author of many hard-to-put-down books chronicling his journeys through nature. His work directly inspired the creation of the US National Park system, which included his beloved Yosemite, and foreshadowed the conservation movement which flourished throughout the 20th century and eventually gave rise to today's global environmental movement.
